EA Responds to Concerns Over UFC 3's Microtransactions

A brand-new player fresh out of the tutorials, can dump $1,000 into the game, acquire the rarest loot drops and immediately jump into online competition with a beastly custom fighter that has an exceedingly large health pool, vastly improved endurance, and substantially stronger strikes than the average player who simply pays the $60 price of admission.

The EA Sports UFC 3 beta recently went live, and brought with it another wave of concerns. PS4 players can download it here, while Xbox One players can download it here. Players can experience the game through Monday on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. If you just want to spar against other fighters online, Quick Fight is there for you.

The beta is very helpful in tuning all aspects of our game, including Ultimate Team.

"Pressing the square button to throw a punch at an opponent, quite literally the simplest and most obvious mechanic in an MMA game, perfectly exemplifies the absurdity of the microtransactions in question". Practice will let you, well, practice without worrying about winning or losing.

The official description says: "The UFC 3 beta features three playable game modes: UFC Ultimate Team, Fight Now, and Online Quick Fight". The new hook with Ultimate Team this year is you can use your own created character alongside legends like Conor McGregor. It includes over 5,000 new animations that has been built from the ground up. Choices you make will affect your career path as you try to win the most fans and become the biggest name in the game.

EA SPORTS UFC 3 will be available worldwide on February 2, 2018 for Xbox One and PlayStation 4.

EA Sports UFC 2 reviewed decently, but was not a consensus favorite when it launched in 2016.

In fact, something similar is going on with free-to-play game Paladins at the moment, which has just introduced a loot box system very similar to Star Wars: Battlefront II.
