Tesla's all-electric semi truck aims to disrupt transport

Tesla presented its first electric articulated lorry, ambitious to challenge the dominance of conventional trucks in the road transport sector.

He claimed that operating a diesel truck will cost 20 per cent more than the Tesla Semi. Vetr upgraded shares of Tesla from a "strong sell" rating to a "sell" rating and set a $341.74 price target on the stock in a research report on Wednesday, September 20th.

"Overall, the Semi is more responsive, covers more miles than a diesel truck in the same amount of time, and more safely integrates with passenger car traffic", it said on the company's website.

WARNING: "Tesla Inc. (TSLA) Posts Quarterly Earnings Results, Beats Estimates By $0.17 EPS" was reported by Week Herald and is owned by of Week Herald. Pittenger & Anderson Inc. now owns 300 shares of the electric vehicle producer's stock valued at $108,000 after acquiring an additional 50 shares in the last quarter.

Unlike traditional trucks, Tesla Central Semi fit - the driver's seat is located at the center of the cabin.

If I told you that my vehicle could accelerate from 0 to 60 MPH in 20 seconds, you'd most likely respond with an unimpressed yawn. And if you were behind that mega truck on an interstate highway on-ramp, you'd be grateful.

No price for the trucks was provided, but reservations for the Tesla Semi cost US$5,000 per truck. The company has a current ratio of 1.09, a quick ratio of 0.71 and a debt-to-equity ratio of 1.66. 13,682,753 shares of the stock traded hands, compared to its average volume of 6,723,802.

Earlier this month, Loblaw committed to have a fully electric fleet as part of the company's commitment to reduce its carbon footprint by 2030. Those trucks can have a more limited range of 100 miles (160 kilometers) or less, which requires fewer expensive batteries.

Enzo Ferrari famously stated, "Aerodynamics are for people who can't build engines". Top speed? Over 250mph, delivered by one motor up front and a further two in the rear. A typical semi has drag coefficient around 0.6; Tesla engineers scoffed at Ferrari's false dichotomy and complemented the Semi's robust powertrain with a sleek aerodynamic drag coefficient of 0.36.

According to the Tesla CEO, the Tesla Roadster should be able to travel for approximately 630 miles of motorway driving on a single charge. About 260,000 Class-8 trucks are produced in North America annually, and that market has a value of about $28.6 billion, said Don Ake, vice president of commercial vehicles at FTR, an industry economics research firm. Regenerative braking takes advantage of inertia, turning the motors into generators to recharge the batteries, and reducing wear on the brakes. To give a battery 800 kWh in half-an-hour, the charger will need to pump out a whopping 1.6 MegaWatts of power. And Arkansas trucking company J.B. Hunt said it has reserved "multiple" tractors that it will deploy on the West Coast but didn't specify how many. Will the Semi deliver?
