French Soccer Player Sent Off For Kicking One Of His Own Fans

Evra has been charged with violent conduct by UEFA, while Marseille have also been charged with a field invasion by fans, setting off of fireworks and "acts of damages".

The former Manchester United player will be banned for at least one match, with the Uefa disciplinary body to rule on the incident on Nov 10.

Evra is nearly certain to face a more severe sanction from UEFA following scenes reminiscent of Eric Cantona's kung-fu kick at Selhurst Park in 1995.

Footage captured by reporters at the match shows the former United defender confronting supporters who had run on the pitch to berate his team-mates.

Evra, 36, was engaged in a heated exchange with a group of fans from an area reserved for around 500 Marseille supporters in Portugal before aiming a head-high kick with his left foot at one of them.

"Similarly, the club can only condemn by definition any destructive behaviour by a "pseudo supporter" who insults his own players when everyone must instead support his team".

"Pat has experience, and he must not react".

Marseille head coach Rudi Garcia disapproved of Patrice Evra's actions after the veteran full-back was sent off prior to kick-off on Thursday for appearing to kick a supporter. Evra is known for posting Instagram videos. The fan claimed, Evra hurled insults after he was subjected to vulgar chants.

"We warmed it up a bit", the fan added. Marseille fans are a little hot.
