House Democrats press Sessions about Russian lawyer's role

Veselnitskaya was instrumental in arranging a screening of the film at the Newseum in Washington, D.C. She also arranged a screening in Brussels, at the European Parliament, although it was canceled last-minute to forestall a libel suit.

The purpose of the meeting was to find information to use to discredit Hillary Clinton's presidential campaign.

Court records in the Prevezon case show the attorney had problems with her immigration status in the U.S.

So why is Trump bringing this up?

The letter concludes by noting that the Justice Department has not responded to "at least twelve" other letters sent in the past and asks for a response by July 26. Putin retaliated by freezing American adoptions of Russian children and barred 18 Americans from entering Russia.

Putting aside whether or not meeting with a Russian lawyer is treasonous (it's not) or a violation of campaign finance laws (it, actually probably is), the best thing going for Trump Jr.

Goldstone spoke to The Associated Press earlier Monday to confirm he had set up the meeting on behalf of his client, Emin Agalarov, but he did not disclose the contents of the email described by The Times. The emails said this multiple times. But along the way, Putin must have realized that Donald Trump's policies aligned with his values more than he could have dared expect from any American candidate.

The Magnitsky Act imposed financial and other sanctions on Russia for alleged human rights violations connected to the death of a Russian lawyer who claimed to uncover fraud during Putin's reign. Magnitsky had been imprisoned after he exposed the alleged money-laundering scheme in which Katsyv was implicated while working for Browder.

That would be Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner, who the president didn't name in his reference to the meeting. Both want it renamed. Trump did not look good.

The pair met in Trump Jr. And only Trump can fix it. Unless, of course, those opposing forces somehow confound him. In fact, the very case that resulted in the Magnitsky Act (after the lawyer who uncovered the case, Sergei Magnitsky suspiciously died).

Trump Jr. also said on Twitter he was willing to work with the Senate intelligence committee, one of the panels probing possible campaign collusion, "to pass on what I know". Apparently, Browder's firm, Hermitage Capital, is listed as a contributor of $10,000 to $25,000 because he paid to attend a CGI conference about a decade ago and Ziff Brothers' Daniel Ziff is recorded as contributing $50,000 to $100,000 to CGI.

"This raises serious questions about whether the Obama administration authorized her to remain in the country, and if so, why?" he asked. She helped prepare the defense for the firm in an asset-forfeiture case, and later re-entered without a visa again in January as the trial date neared.

Veselnitskaya also complained about being "harassed by the Government despite being paroled into the United States". The settlement was so meager that one of Prevezon's US attorneys said it was "almost an admission that they shouldn't have brought the case". The piece reports that the Russian lawyer in question - Natalia Veselnitskaya - "was initially cleared into the United States by the Justice Department under 'extraordinary circumstances' before she embarked on a lobbying campaign last year that ensnared the president's eldest son".
